Installation Types
‘Swamp Hunt’ has two different installation modes; (1) full and (2) compact. Full mode will install all graphics and multi-media files to your hard drive. This provides for better performance but will require more disk space (min 250 Mbytes). The compact mode required less hard disk space (min 50 Mbytes) but must access the CD_ROM drive for much of the level graphics and multimedia thus resulting in slower performance. Regardless of the install mode you choose, the CD_ROM must remain in the drive while you play ‘Swamp Hunt’.

Starting the Game
For the best performance it is recommended that you exit all other programs while playing ‘Swamp Hunt’.
The CD-ROM must reside in the drive in order to play the game. Follow these steps to begin:

==> double click on the ‘Swamp Hunt’ shortcut on your desktop

OR

==> click on ‘Start’, click on ‘Programs’, click on ‘Realistic Hunting Games’, click on ‘Swamp Hunt’

Playing the Game
Gear Preferences- This is where the player selects and defines all game preferences.

Save/Load Hunter- This is done by clicking on the ‘Save hunter’ tab. You can enter your name as the filename and follow the instructions to save your settings. To retrieve your settings click on the “Load hunter’ tab, highlight the file with your name and follow directions to open. Afterwards your personal settings will be loaded.

Skill Level- The three skill levels determine the hunting difficulty. While hunting, the skill level indirectly determines the score of the harvest. The more difficult the skill level the greater the amount of patience that is required to harvest game. The reward for your increased patience yields higher scoring bucks and gobblers.

Goose/Turkey Gear- Items on the table and in the room can be selected by clicking on desired gear. Selected gear is then placed on the ‘board’. To change gear click on the selected gear (on the board) to return it to the room. For turkey hunting the player has a choice of firearm, turkey calls, locator calls, a hen decoy and camo preference. Click on the camo shirt to change the current (selected) pattern. Items for goose hunting; firearm, goose call, and decoys are selected in the same manner as the turkey gear.

Deer Gear- Go here to select your firearm, deer calls and scents. Items on the table and in the room can be selected by clicking on desired gear. Selected gear is then placed on the ‘board’. To change gear click on the selected gear (on the board) to return it to the room. All deer gear is selected in this manner.

Sound Recognition- Windows XP or Vista is required to utilize the sound recognition feature. Sound recognition allows you to use your game calls to communicate with the animals in the hunting game in conjuction with a microphone connected to your PC. To use this feature you must select ‘enable’ in the SRT (Sound Recognition Technology) panel. The SRT panel is accessible in the gear preferences panel. The game software will determine the default recording device and its unlikely that it will ever have to be changed. There will be defined calling templates for each of the different types of game calls that are recognized. The up arrow will allow the player to surf through the list of available templates.

Sporting Clays: Selecting sporting clays will take you to one of two shooting ranges (selected at random). You must first select a shotgun (see goose/turkey gear), the shotgun for clays is the same as the firearm chosen for goose hunting. The percentage hit is based on total breaks divided by total launched. To launch the clays right click on the mouse, to fire the shotgun left click on the mouse. For moderate and difficult skill levels you must have the shotgun lowered before a clay will launch. A voice message will reinforce this on occasion.

Turkey Hunting: The turkey hunting selection will take the hunter to Texas for a rio grande spring gobbler hunt. Spring gobbler hunting begins in the pre-dawn morning. Clicking on the map icon will display the hunting area, the orange dot indicates hunter location. Also included on the map are areas frequented by the turkeys. Clicking the map icon when the map is displayed will hide the map from view. Calls can be made by simply clicking on their respective icons. Left click will produce yelps and right click will produce clucks. If you have selected a decoy as part of your hunting gear, clicking that icon will place the decoy in front of your setup. The navigation icon (far left arrows) allows you to reposition from one setup to another. The black arrows indicator direction of travel. The center of the navigation icon will initially be green. The color will transform to bright orange indicating the gobbler’s interest level and proximity. To pick the decoy up either click the decoy icon again or relocate. If sound recognition is enabled and functioning the SRT (Sound Recognition Technology) icon will light up to a bright yellow (otherwise gray). With your microphone connected to your computer, you can make turkey calls with your actual calls to interact with the birds. The more difficult the skill level, the more challenging it is to call in a gobbler and the longer the spurs will be. To harvest a gobbler a head or neck shot is required. Only gobblers are allowed, regardless of skill level. If a hen is accidentally shot all gobblers in your trophy room will be deleted. If a gobbler is successfully harvested a ‘check card’ with score (spur length) will be displayed. The top five gobblers are placed in the trophy room. Click on ‘lodge’ to return to the main lodge.

Goose Hunting: The goose hunting (Canada geese) selection will take the hunter to one of two fields situated around the swamp. One field consists of harvested corn, the other wheat. Goose hunting begins at pre-dawn, gun swing is limited before legal shooting time. Hunting time is unlimited but there is a bag limit of four geese. To place decoys click on the decoy icon. One click sets the decoys in a scatter rig, two clicks creates a landing hole and three clicks picks the rig up. The 'cross hair' icon on the left toggles ON/OFF. The default is OFF, ON shows graphically how to lead incoming geese. There is a limitation of three shots at a time (see shotgun shell icons). If the shotgun is ‘emptied’ reloading is automatic. The shotgun can be manually reloaded after one of two shots by clicking on the shotgun shell icon(s). Calls can be made by simply clicking on the goose call icon. Left click will produce honks and right click will produce double clucks. If sound recognition is enabled and functioning the SRT (Sound Recognition Technology) icon will light up to a bright yellow (otherwise gray). With your microphone connected to your computer, you can make goose calls with your actual calls to interact with the geese. The more difficult the skill level, the more patience you have to have with the working geese.

Deer Hunting: To deer hunt select you deer gear in gear preferences then click on ‘Deer Hunting’. This selection will take the hunter to an overhead map of the swamp and surrounding fields which comprise the hunting area. The area can be traversed (top/bottom or left/right) or you can descend or ascend. Also, deer can be viewed from above as they move around the property. The 'Ctrl' key controls altitude, the right mouse click toggles so that 'Ctrl' either climbs or descends. ‘Map performance’ toggles the water animation ON/OFF and defaults to ON. Slower computer systems will perform faster when the water is not being animated. On the map six shooting house style blinds are present for deer hunting. To hunt, click on the stand you wish to hunt and you will be placed in the woods at that location.

All deer hunts are evening hunts. You are allowed to hunt until dusk. Grunting at intervals will increase your odds of seeing bucks. Clicking on the scent bottle icons will dispense scent. To make a deer call left click on the call icon. This call can also be used to make deer stop walking which increases the odds of making a good shot. Using the doe bleat will attract both small bucks and does and performs equally well as the grunt when it comes to stopping deer. When sighting on a deer the scope will drift. This has been included to create a more realistic experience. However, on slower systems this may cause performance problems. Left clicking on the mouse will fire the gun, right click toggles the drift ON/OFF. The default is ON.

Clicking the ‘buck head’ icon on the far left will cause a deer to move into the scene immediately. However, if you ‘cheat’ and harvest a buck no entry will be made in the trophy room. If sound recognition is enabled and functioning the SRT (Sound Recognition Technology) icon will light up to a bright yellow (otherwise gray). With your microphone connected to your computer, you can interact with the deer using your actual calls. The more difficult the skill level, the more patience that is required to see big bucks. To harvest a whitetail a chest shot is required, any other shot placement will result in a miss. The only skill level in which does can be legally harvested is the ‘easy’ level. If a doe is taken illegally then all bucks in your trophy room will be deleted. If a whitetail is successfully harvested a ‘check card’ with score (B&C) will be displayed. The top three bucks are placed in the trophy room. Click on ‘map’ to return to the overhead hunting map. Click on ‘lodge’ to return to the main lodge.

Trophies: Click on the ‘trophies’ tab on the main lodge screen. The top three whitetail deer scores are stored in the trophy room. Score is based on the B&C score of the buck as seen on the check card following harvest. For gobblers, the top five harvests are stored. Score is based on spur length.

SRT Troubleshooting: For sound recognition to work properly three things are required. First, you must go into Gear Preferences then SRT setup to enable sound recognition. Make sure that a template has been defined for each of the call types. The second requirement is that a working microphone is connected properly to your computer. While hunting the SRT logo will highlight in bright yellow indicating that the sound recognition has been enabled properly. However, this does not test for a properly connected and functioning microphone. This can be tested by selecting the SRT Troubleshooting tab on the main lodge panel. When selected, a utility is launched which will allow you to test record a sound. If you can successfully record and playback then your microphone is configured properly.
