Simulation Hunt: Canada Hunt has three full featured hunts. Simulation mode is the closest to actual hunting. More woods wisdom and patience is required to be successful. When the 'Sim Hunt' option is selected the player will have to either create a new handle or select an existing one. The player handle defines the hunter to the game for purposes of gear preferences and scoring. The next step is to pick your hunting area.

Icons are present for all of the different hunts available. In order to continue, click on the highlighted green area. Once a hunt has been selected the player must then choose hunting gear. The options are slightly different depending on the type of hunting the player has chosen. For deer hunting the player has the choice of high powered rifle, shotgun or muzzleloading rifle. For the high powered rifle there are three calibers to select from, the shotgun offers the choice of two slugs types and for the muzzleleader the player can select sabot or lead slug projectiles. Elk hunting gear options would include the high powered rifle and muzzleloading rifle. Automatically included are elk calls; a bugle call, (used for challenging bulls), and a cow call (used to lure bulls in). For turkey hunting, the player's firearm is automatically selected, a shotgun by default. The type of shells the hunter wishes to use can be specified. The heavier shot loads will have a greater percentage of successful harvests at greater ranges. The player must also select turkey calls to be used. The crow and owl calls are used for locating gobblers, while the hen calls are used for luring gobblers into shotgun range. Any combination of two calls are allowed. Reset calls will clear the selected calls.

The firearms and ammo loads have true to life ballistics associated with them. The incentive to use a more primitive firearm (muzzleloader for example) would be to provide more challenge. Once the player has selected their gear they are ready to hunt. Simply click on the 'Hunt' button to begin. The 'Save Prefs' button will save all of the selected
Gear preferences. However, preferences are saved automatically.

Deer Hunting: Deer hunting takes place in the winter woodlands of Saskatchewan, Canada. The hunter is allowed ten rounds of ammunition for the hunt. There is no time limit, the player may hunt until all deer in the level are harvested. For each hunt there will be between five and eight whitetail deer of various gender and size. The player can stalk hunt or walk up into tree stands which are present on the property. The whitetails are wary and can be very difficult to approach. Also, shot placement is very important. If a well placed shot results in the deer running off the hunter should walk to the area the deer was in and check for blood. Blood sign would indicate a good hit and should be followed so that the deer can be recovered. Both bucks and does can be legally harvested. The 'register' keystroke (r) will record your harvest and display the animals' score. The player must be within ten yards of the harvested animal in order to register the harvest. The "d" key will display the HUD which will indicate how much ammunition is remaining. This key toggles, one state the HUD is visible, the other hides it.

Elk Hunting: Elk hunting takes place in the Rocky mountains of Colorado. As with the deer hunt, the hunter is allowed only ten rounds of ammunition. There is no time limit, there is a limit of one bull elk per hunt. Elk are more vocal that whitetail deer and can be worked with the elk calls provided in the game. The bugle call is a challenge to other bulls and will hopefully encourage them to respond vocally. The cow call is for luring bulls in. The preferred method of hunting is stalk, stop and call. Move if needed, when an elk is coming to you stay put and wait. As with deer hunting, if a well placed shot results in the elk running away the hunter should walk to the area the elk was in and check for blood. Blood sign would indicate a good hit and should be followed so that the elk can be recovered. The 'register' keystroke (r) will record your harvest and display the animals' score. The player must be within ten yards of the harvested animal in order to register the harvest. For elk hunting the "d" key will display the HUD which will indicate how much ammunition is remaining and also the 'active' call. Two calls will be available to use, when a call is made in the game the 'active' call is the one which is used. To cycle through the selected calls press the 'z' key. The call displayed in the HUD is the active call.

Turkey Hunting: Turkey hunting takes place in the low country of South Carolina. As with deer and elk hunting, the hunter is allowed ten rounds of ammunition. As with the other hunts there is no time limit. The player may harvest one gobbler per hunt, hens are not allowed to be shot in simulation mode. When the hunt starts it will be early in the morning and dark. After the sun starts to rise the turkeys will fly down from their roost trees and call to one another to assemble. The player can use the various calls to entice the gobbler over to his position. Shotgun ammunition for the turkey hunt is a fine shot, not a projectile. This means the gobbler must be very close before a shot is attempted. The owl and crow calls are for 'locating' or making the gobbler sound off. The hen calls are used to lure the gobbler to the hunters' position. The turkeys are wary so excessive walking may scare the birds. For successfully harvested gobblers, the 'register' keystroke (r) will record and display the birds' score. The player must be within ten yards of the harvested animal in order to register the harvest. For turkey hunting the "d" key will display the HUD which will indicate how much ammunition is remaining and also the 'active' call. Two calls will be available to use, when you make a call the 'active' call is the one which is used. To cycle through the selected calls press the 'z' key.

Critter Cam: Critter cam is a unique 4th person view. By enabling critter cam (p) you will view from the animals' perspective. Critter cam is a toggle, when you wish to return to the hunters' perspective press "p" again. For deer, critter cam will randomly follow any of the deer currently residing in the level. For elk, critter cam will always follow the closest bull to the hunter. And for turkeys, critter cam will always follow the gobbler and will activate only after the turkeys have flown off their roosts.

Challenge Mode: Challenge mode offers more variety in gameplay. It is virtually identical to the hunting simulation with a few major differences. In challenge mode the player has only five minutes to harvest as many animals as possible. The action is faster paced, the
player movement is accelerated. Separate scoring is kept (in the trophy room) for the
challenge mode as well. The high score for each respective level (deer, turkey, elk) is
recorded. As with the simulation mode only ten rounds of ammunition are allowed and critter cam is fully functional. The HUD (heads up display) will indicate the number of animals available, the number harvested and the remaining time. One other difference from the simulation mode is that turkey hens can be legally shot in the turkey challenge mode. Three different events will cause the challenge hunt to terminate; (1) successfully harvesting all animals in the level, (2) depleting ammunition, (3) depleting allotted time.

Practice Mode: Practice mode was designed for fast pace action and to familiarize the player with the various firearms available in the game. This mode can be played for deer, elk and turkeys. The primary differences from simulation and challenge mode are;

*player is stationary, i.e., cannot move around the property
*animals will appear within gun range of the player's position
*no time limit and no scoring
*unlimited amount of ammunition
*use of calls and critter cam still available

Trophies: Click on the 'Trophies' button to view, scores are logged by handle.
Scoring for simulation mode is as follows;
The highest scoring deer, elk and turkey are recorded and listed in the trophy room. Turkeys are scored on spur length times ten, plus beard length times two plus twenty (estimated weight for gobbler), Whitetail bucks are scored based on a Boone & Crocket score assigned when the animal is harvested and registered. The same scoring conventions hold true for bull elk. Whitetail does (no antlers) have a score value of 10 points. In addition to high scores by species, there is a scoring class for overall. This score is the cumulative score for that hunter for all species and all hunts combined for simulation mode. The four players are listed in order of scoring.

Scoring for challenge mode is as follows;
The highest scoring deer, elk and turkey challenge hunts are recorded listed in the trophy room. The method in which animals are scored is virtually identical to the scoring methods while hunting in simulation mode. The only difference is that turkey hens can be legally shot in challenge mode with a resulting score of ten points per hen. After the five minute hunt in challenge mode the player will receive their score via dialog box. The trophy room will keep the high score by level (deer, elk, turkey) for the challenge round.

The only way to clear the trophy room out is to uninstall and then re-install Canada Hunt.
